UCSC # Toxic Algal Bloom Interference # Harmful algal blooms (HABs) are increasing in prevalence due to warming temperatures; this threatens the utility and biodiversity of freshwater ecosystems globally. The cyanobacteria Microcystis aeruginosa secretes microcystin, a hepatotoxin that is the principal contributor to this threat.
