After reaching maturity biofilms, intestinal pathogens will develop resistance to antibiotics and host immunity, elicit infection repeatedly, and induce diarrhea or inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. In mature biofilms, the network structure formed by eDNA is crucial for the maintenance of biofilm stability.
